Private property towing in Newark NJ

This page covers two different things people mean by "newark towing police": help for property owners and managers who need a vehicle removed legally, and honest information for drivers whose car was towed from a lot or at police direction and who want to know their rights. We'll be straight about both, including where we fit and where we don't.

For Property Owners & Managers

If you run an apartment building, a business lot, or a private community in Newark and you've got vehicles parked where they shouldn't be, blocking a fire lane, sitting abandoned, taking a reserved spot, we remove them in line with New Jersey's rules. That means proper signage has to be posted, the removal has to be documented, and fees have to stay within the legal caps. We do it by the book so it holds up, and so you're not the one getting a complaint filed against you later.

If Your Car Was Towed: Know the Law

New Jersey has real consumer protections here, the Predatory Towing Prevention Act. A non-consensual tow fee is presumed excessive if it runs more than 25% above the company's usual consensual rate for the same service. Storage is billed in full 24-hour periods, not padded by the hour. The company has to notify the owner and lienholder within 30 days, and if they blow that deadline the storage they can charge is capped. If you believe you were gouged, you can dispute it and file with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. Read the actual statute rather than taking anyone's word, including ours.

We Are Not the City Impound

Worth saying plainly: Brick City Towing is an independent company. We are not the Newark Police impound lot and not a municipal agency. If your car was towed by police to a city or contracted impound, you'll need to go through that lot and the police to get it back, we can't release a vehicle we didn't tow. What we can do is answer questions, and if your car's at a shop or your home and needs to go somewhere, tow it for you fairly.

Common Questions

My car was towed in Newark, how do I get it back?
If police towed it to an impound, contact the Newark Police and that lot, you'll typically need ID, proof of ownership and payment. We're independent and can't release a car we didn't tow, but we're glad to point you the right way.
How much can a private lot legally charge me in NJ?
Under the Predatory Towing Prevention Act, a non-consensual fee is presumed excessive if it's more than 25% above the tower's normal consensual rate, and storage must be billed in full 24-hour blocks. See the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.
Can you remove a car parked illegally on my property?
Yes, for Newark property owners and managers, done legally with proper signage and documentation. Call to set it up.
Are you affiliated with the Newark Police?
No. We're a private, independent tow company, not the police impound or any city agency.
